BIRZEBBUGIA TIGERS vs MSIDA RED STARS 0- 2

Birzebbugia Tigers concluded their league campaign with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of struggling Msida Red Stars. The Tigers finish in a comfortable mid-table position far away from relegation problems and missing right on the last match the possibility of competing in the inter-league between the third and fourth placed teams of each division.

It was a drab performance from the Tigers as they barely went close to scoring in what resulted as the first game of the season in which our players failed to find the target. Msida's intentions of winning the game and avoiding the drop were clear right from the start as they were the brighter side. No clear chances were created in the first minutes of the game, but when on the 20th minute mark, Dean Camilleri headed a cross from the right flank to put Msida in the advantage, it was all but uncertain where the maximum points would go. The Tigers failed to make a strong reaction and although captain Tabone went close with a curly shot that finished just wide, the Tigers attacks were sterile and Zahra, in the opponents' goal, had the easiest of days. Right before the end of the first period, Celeste was served with a long ball but his close range effort was cleared by Msida's defence.

The second half began on the same rhythm of the first period, as our players continued to play nonchalantly with no sign of equalising and it was no surprise when Msida doubled their advantage. Defender W.Mallia arrived at the ball before onrushing goalie Xerxen and scored with a low shot from 40 metres out. The points headed Msida's way and there was only time for some witty refeering and two yellow cards handed to Formosa and Farrugia. With the league campaign over, all efforts must now be shifted to the IASC knock-out, the Tigers' last hope of clinching silverware this season.
