BIRZEBBUGIA TIGERS vs FLORIANA AJAX 3 - 0

Birzebbugia Tigers continued with their positive run when they beat Floriana Ajax by 3 goals to nil and can now only hope that runaway leaders Cospicua St Thomas drop some precious points in the aim of winning this season's IASC 1 division campaign.

The Tigers showed their attacking intentions right from the first whistle and in the first five minutes of the game, first Cachia did not connect with the ball with the opponents' keeper beaten and then C.Camilleri went close with a shot that went just wide. After 14 minutes, the Tigers surged ahead when R.Celeste controlled the ball in mid-air and with a precise volley found the back of the net. Migneco went close with a long-range effort that finished high. The Tigers continued to show better ideas and went again close right before the end of the first period, when V.Camilleri low cross from the left was not met by any of our forwards and the ball finished just wide.

The second period saw again the Tigers threaten to score and it was not a surprise when after 8 minutes, midfielder M.Axiaq's tame shot from the left was fumbled by the Floriana keeper and finished in the net. Substitute Carabott Damato was unlucky when his left-footed shot from just inside the penalty area went wide and soon afterwards Schwienbacher with a fierce shot went again close to increase the lead. On the other end of the pitch, D.Galea cleared off the line an Ellul shot. In a solitary counterattack P.Cachia saw his right-footed effort parried in a corner by the opponents' keeper. The third goal arrived after 28 minutes when from a well-taken freekick Schwienbacher's shot sailed past the Floriana keeper into the back of the net. There was also time for defender Galea to score again for the Tigers but his shot was cleared by the somewhat shaky Floriana defence.
