IASC 1st DIVISION GETS UNDERWAY THIS WEEKEND

Next Sunday, 2nd October 2005, the 1st division of the Inter Amateur Soccer Competition gets underway with the usual programme of three matches.

Birzebbugia Tigers will not be playing in this initial round of matches, with their debut fixed for 16th October 2005 against Floriana Ajax. The first match of the season will see Mosta Gunners take on Floriana Ajax, while last season's champions Senglea Youngsters take on newcomers Luqa Juniors. In the last match, the two big guns, Cospicua St Thomas and Zurrieq Wolves, face each other in what is predicted to be the most balanced match of the day.

Sta Lucia ground will again host all matches scheduled by this association. The league format, unique in the world of modern football, see nine teams battle through only one round of matches, gaining only two points for a win, a system now obsolete from all world-wide football. The concept of modernisation did not find place within the walls of this association as the participating teams have only a meagre eight games on which to balance and risk their fortunes, making this league one of the shortest to be played around the globe.
